Abstract
Objectives: Reducing regional health inequalities is one of main concerns in a national health policy. This study is to explore the effect of deprivation on life expectancy and healthy life expectancy at the district level.

Methods: Life expectancy and healthy life expectancy at birth estimates were developed by gender for 5 years periods(2010-2014) using mid-year term population data(2010-2014), mortality data(2010-2014) and limiting long standing disability of census data(2010). A factor-based deprivation index consisting 11 variables was used to define deprivation. Conditional autoregressive model was used to examine the association between life expectancy and healthy life expectancy and deprivation index, and compared to the result of ordinary least squares regression.

Results: The ranges of life expectancy and healthy life expectancy were 8.78 years and 12.03 years in male and 6.92 years and 9.40 years in female respectively. The overall life expectancy and healthy life expectancy at birth in male was 3.25 years and 4.40 years longer for the least deprived area than for the most deprived area. For female, the gap was 0.41 and 2.25 years. Life expectancy and healthy life expectancy were strong association with deprivation index at both sex (except life expectancy in female) in spatial regression model.

Conclusions: The Government¡¯s aim will be needed to reduce regional life expectancy and healthy life expectancy.
